Ipswich City CouncilGuys and Dolls
15 to 23 October - 7:30pm Guys and Dolls is a musical with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It is based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure", two short stories by Damon Runyon, and also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably "Pick the Winner." Premiering on Broadway in 1950, it ran for 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical, and has had several Broadway revivals as well as West End productions. The 1955 film adaptation starred Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine.[1] Small-time gambler Nathan Detroit bets his big-time pal Sky Masterson that he can't make the next woman he sees fall in love with him. When that ‘doll' happens to be the neighbourhood missionary, Sarah Brown, the stage is set for an unforgettable evening's entertainment. Guys and Dolls is packed with great songs, a romantic tale and terrific choreography. [1] Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guys_and_Dolls
