Ipswich City CouncilFestival of Theatre MediaWorld-class entertainment on offer at Ipswich Civic Hall 25 January 2008 IPSWICH City Council's 2008 Festival of Theatre is set to build on four years of outstanding success by offering world-class entertainment for south east Queensland audiences. Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson Councillor Charlie Pisasale said the recent release of theatre events for the first half of the year featured a star-studded array of performances from local, national and international groups. "One of the most exciting additions to booking options this year is the internet. Customers can now enjoy the worldwide convenience of purchasing tickets online via the Civic Hall website at http://www.ipswichcivichall.com.au/," Cr Charlie Pisasale said. "With tickets selling fast for the 2008 program, the online booking option has already proved popular in recent weeks. The most popular production to date has been Menopause The Musical, with 41% of ticket buyers choosing the online booking service. "With the Box Office currently located at the Council Customer Service Centre in Ipswich City Square while Civic Hall renovations take place, I encourage customers to take advantage of online and phone bookings." Cr Charlie Pisasale said plenty of Australian talent was on the bill this year including Israeli-born Australian singer/songwriter Lior live in concert in March and a jam-packed May featuring David Campbell in The Swing Sessions 2, Co-Opera in La Traviata and Max Gillies in Queensland Theatre Company's critically acclaimed production of Heroes. "Queensland Arts Council will present Australia's best flamenco dancers in the not-to-be-missed Flamenco Fire in April, some of the nation's top stand-up comedians will be in town in May as part of the 2008 Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow, and the hugely successful Menopause The Musical takes the stage in June," he said. "International acts also feature. In April, Spectacular China offers a dynamic and potent combination of dance, acrobatics, kung fu, music and song, while acclaimed Canadian guitarist/singer-songwriter Harry Manx arrives in May as part of his fifth Australian tour. "Ireland's most famous and successful duo, Foster and Allen, also performs in May after a sell-out concert in 2006, followed by British popular music icons The Manfreds and The Spencer Davis Group in June. "Even ‘The King' will be a part of the 2008 program when the multi-talented Andy Seymour presents The Gospel According to Elvis, a tribute show unlike any other, in April." Cr Charlie Pisasale said the little ones had not been forgotten with Monkey Baa Theatre for Young People presenting Stephen Michael King's Milli, Jack and the Dancing Cat in June. "Add to this the fabulous home-grown talent of the Ipswich Orpheus Chorale in its annual Celebrity Concert, the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir in its 2008 Showcase, the Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band's fifth annual International Tattoo - A Celtic Journey, and the Ipswich Seniors Concert Group in Who Dun It? - A Magatha Mystery - and why indeed would you go anywhere else for entertainment?" he said. For more information and online bookings, visit the website at http://www.ipswichcivichall.com.au/ or telephone the Box Office on 3810 6100. The Ipswich Civic Hall Box Office will be located at the Council Customer Service Centre in Ipswich City Square (Monday to Friday) until Friday 7 March, at which time it will return to the refurbished Civic Hall on the corner of Limestone and Nicholas streets.
