Planning and Development Chairperson Councillor Paul Tully said nominations for this year's Awards would close on July 2 and a presentation to winners of the annual awards would be held on August 19 at Ipswich Civic Hall. Cr Tully said nomination forms for the awards were available from council's website at http://www.ipswich.qld.gov.au/ "Forms are also available from the Planning and Development counter on the first floor of council's main administration building in South St. "Prospective nominees can contact council on 3810 6256 if they need to have a nomination sent to them." "In 1997 we introduced a new concept into the awards with the incorporation of the Environment Award in the inaugural Awards for Excellence in Design, Heritage and Environment," he said. Cr Tully said the awards were further refined in 1999 owing to the extremely positive response of Ipswich schools. "Council initiated at perpetual trophy specifically targeted at schools to promote academic excellence and school pride in the history, development and environment of the City of Ipswich." Cr Tully said since its inception, the awards have helped to focus community attention in a positive way on Ipswich's development community. "These awards give council the opportunity to give recognition to Ipswich's development community for the excellent quality of development work being completed throughout the city." Cr Tully said the industry was fully supportive of the awards which had attracted entries ranging from the humble family renovator to some of the nation's largest development corporations. "Through the awards we are also recognising the academic projects completed by students from all levels of education, which promote/examine the culture, environment and heritage of Ipswich and the local region."
