Ipswich City CouncilFestival of Theatre MediaInterest being called for Ipswich Sports Summit 8 August 2008 COACHES, officials and administrators of sports in and around Ipswich will have the opportunity to brush up on their skills as the Ipswich Sports Summit hits town on September 20. Parks Sport and Recreation Committee Chairperson, Councillor David Morrison said the Summit would provide sports people with an opportunity to exchange ideas and share knowledge and experiences of high profile industry professionals. "Coaches and officials will benefit from four presenters on topics from increasing junior participation in sport through the Active After-School Communities program, what's involved in becoming a coach through to managing drugs and alcohol in sport and the role of a club canteen in feeding active kids. "The presenters are incredibly well versed in their individual specialities. Rodney Coxsedge is the Regional Coordinator for the Active After-School Communities program and will provide information about the program including the benefits of club involvement. "Margaret Monaghan has more than 20 years experience in sport from the grassroots to elite sporting community. "Her presentation covers developing your own coaching style, group dynamics, knowledge building, effective communication, skills acquisition and legal issues." Cr Morrison said the Good Sports Program in Queensland was designed to help sporting clubs to manage alcohol responsibility and to reduce alcohol and other drug related problems. "State Manager for the program, Steve Anderson will show clubs how to promote and maintain a positive image and create a safe environment for players, members, families and supporters. "Sports dietician and nutritionist, Kellie Hogan, will cover all the important issues for sporting canteens and provide all the healthy eating messages you'll require to pass on to your team." Cr Morrison said the Ipswich Sports Summit would also include an important stream of information sessions for administrators including the importance of club committees and governance, volunteer management, risk management planning and Council support services. "Club administrators will be provided with the knowledge and tools needed to retain, reward and recognise the army of volunteers who help make any club successful. "Presenters will also cover issues like risk management including the requirement for Blue Cards, and the Council will detail some of the key support services available to sporting and recreation clubs in Ipswich," Cr Morrison said. The Ipswich Sport Summit is on Saturday 20 September 2008 from 7:30am to 12:30pm at the Ipswich Civic Hall. The Queensland Government's Department of Sport and Recreation is proud to present the Ipswich Sports Summit in partnership with the Ipswich City Council.
