Ipswich City CouncilFestival of Theatre MediaCultural services benefit from tied funding 19 August 2008 ANNUAL Tied Funding applications to with a total value of $8000 have been award to five Ipswich cultural organisations by the Ipswich City Council. Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Pisasale said Council set aside funding on an annual basis to support particular cultural groups from Ipswich who are consistently supporting community events and developing cultural activities that profile Ipswich as a cultural leader. "The Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod Society (Inc) received $4000 in financial assistance to conduct the 64th Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod to be staged in the Ipswich Civic Hall during May (music), June/July (dance) and August (speech and drama). "The Eisteddfod provides around five thousand youth performers the opportunity to perform and compete in the disciplines of instrument, voice, dance, speech, drama, art and literacy. "It is extremely prestigious to win an award at this eisteddfod with participants from as far a field as Townsville, Rockhampton and Sydney regularly attending." Cr Pisasale said the Silkstone Eisteddfod in their 82nd year would provide over fifty sections for competitors aged from nine years to open adults in the categories of piano, instrument, organ, vocal, choral, bands, speech and drama. "Council's $1000 sponsorship is used to support the Aggregate Awards in piano, organ, instrument, speech and drama sections of the Eisteddfod which is staged in the Uniting Church Hall on Glebe Road, Silkstone." Cr Pisasale said the Ipswich Model Band Inc. was recognised as the city's principal community concert band. He said the $1000 Tied Funding allocated would go towards recruiting young musicians from local secondary schools. "The Ipswich Thistle Pipe Band Inc. also received $1000 to assist with the hosting of the ‘Ipswich 2009 Gathering of the Clans Queensland Pipe Band and Solo Piping and Drumming Competition' and their 100th Anniversary celebrations in June 2009 in Limestone Park. The Ipswich Little Theatre Society Inc will also receive $1000 to go towards its an annual program of performances. "The Ipswich Little Theatre Society also stage an annual One-Act Play Drama Festival at the Incinerator Theatre each August. "This festival is in its 54th year, which makes it the longest continuously running drama festival in Australia. "The Society is immensely proud of the National Trust -listed building, the Burley Griffin Incinerator and assists to promote Ipswich as a tourism destination including tours and lunches at the theatre which are growing in popularity," Cr Pisasale said. "These leading cultural community organisations in the City of Ipswich play a vital role in the life of the community."
