Ipswich Seniors Cry 'Heaven Help Us' In Latest Concert Offering

1 July 2009

LOCAL churches and the characters that inhabit them are the subjects of the latest theatrical offering from the Ipswich Seniors Concert Group.

Heaven Help Us, written and directed by Shay Ryan, takes the stage at Ipswich Civic Hall on Tuesday 18 August as part of the 2009 Festival of Theatre.

Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Pisasale, said the city's talented seniors would once again present a fantastic afternoon's entertainment for the people of Ipswich.

"I never cease to be amazed by what this wonderful group of people creates time and time again," Cr Pisasale said.

"Under the stage direction of Shay Ryan and the musical direction of the one and only Kath McGrath, these talented performers raise the bar each time they take the stage.

"Each and every one of them puts in hours and hours of time rehearsing and making costumes, props and set pieces - all for the love of it - and their dedication shines almost as brightly as their talent."

Offering a light-hearted look at the characters which form our local church communities, Heaven Help Us includes everything from the regular Parish Council meetings and choir practice to working bee rivalry and a ‘professional mourner'.

Featuring an array of well-known songs including When the Saints Go Marching In, Climb Every Mountain, Amazing Grace, We Shall Not Be Moved and many more, there will be plenty of chances for a sing-along.

The public concert kicks off at 1.30pm and patrons are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy 30 minutes of pre-show entertainment.

All tickets are $8 and available now through the Ipswich Civic Hall Box Office, telephone 3810 6100, or online at http://www.ipswichcivichall.com.au/ .
