Time Running Out to Register for Free Songwriting Workshop

8 July 2009

Time is running out for Ipswich's budding songwriters to register for a free workshop this month.

Presented as part of the Queensland Music Festival, "Song Trails South" comes to Ipswich Civic Hall on Thursday 30 July from 10am to 1pm.

Open to aspiring songwriters aged 14 and over, the free workshop offers participants the chance to tap into the wealth of skill and experience of specially selected workshop leaders, including members of iconic Australian bands Mondo Rock and The Choirboys.

Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Pisasale, said the event provided a fantastic opportunity for local musicians.

"This is a rare chance to learn the artistry and techniques required to finally complete that self-penned masterpiece," Cr Pisasale said.

"Song Trails South has been curated by country music queen and multi Golden Guitar winner Melinda Schneider.

"Among those joining her in the workshop will be Mark Gable, guitarist from The Choirboys, Mondo Rock's guitarist, Eric Mc McCusker and Leah Flanagan, indigenous folk performer.

"I urge anyone out there who is interested in songwriting, or those that need some inspiration, to register for this workshop and take advantage of such a great creative opportunity."

Attendance is free of charge and open to participants aged 14 years and over, however pre-registration is required by Friday 10 July.

To register, visit the Ipswich Civic Hall website at http://www.ipswichcivichall.com.au/ and click on the "Song Trails" button at the top of the home page.  Telephone inquiries can be made on 3010 6600.

Registrations will be confirmed by an email that will contain the venue details and further information regarding the workshop.
