Ipswich City CouncilFestival of Theatre MediaLocal bands invited to enter global battle 28 July 2009 LOCAL bands are invited to enter a global battle for a chance to strut their stuff on the world stage. The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) Challenge comes to Ipswich this year with a qualifying heat set to be held at Ipswich Civic Hall on Sunday 23 August. Winners of the Ipswich heat will head to the regional finals or straight on to the national finals in a bid to secure an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Final in London this December. Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Pisasale, said the competition only had two rules: no covers and no recorded music. "If you love to perform and think your band has got what it takes to make it big, this could be your chance," Cr Pisasale said. "Those that love live music have not been forgotten either, with tickets on sale now to see the local bands in action in a huge afternoon and evening of entertainment. "An Australian band from Newcastle came second in 2008. Is this an Ipswich band's year? I'd like to think so." The GBOB Challenge is open to all bands whether unsigned or signed to a record label. Bands need only pay a one-off registration fee of $33 per band member in order to enter. All bands that register and pay are guaranteed to play. Full details and registration forms are available via the website at www.gbob.com/challenge . The winning band in the World Final will be awarded a band development package worth over $100,000, including one week in a top UK recording studio with a producer, a 10-date tour of major UK cities and $10,000 in cash. The Global Battle of the Bands takes the stage at Ipswich Civic Hall on Sunday 23 August from 2.30pm. All audience tickets are $12 and are available via the Box Office, telephone 3810 6100, or online at www.ipswichcivichall.com.au . -ENDS-
