Plenty of entertainment on its way to Civic Hall

WITH less than six months to go, there's still plenty of entertainment on offer through the 2009 Festival of Theatre program at Ipswich Civic Hall.

Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Pisasale, said the latest Festival of Theatre brochure covering events for the second half of the year showed there was a wide array of entertaining shows still to come.

"The Festival of Theatre prides itself on offering entertainment for everyone and the events still to come in 2009 will certainly achieve that aim," Cr Pisasale said.

"This wonderful and successful program continues to be extremely popular, not only with the people of Ipswich, but also with the increasing number of ticket buyers from outside the city.

"The fact that people are willing to travel, sometimes long distances, to catch a show at Civic Hall is testimony to the great events the Festival of Theatre attracts to the city."

Among the Festival of Theatre events on offer in coming weeks are:

• Heaven Help Us - an Ipswich Seniors Concert - 18 August;
• Global Battle of the Bands - local bands battling it out - 23 August;
• The Kursk - award-winning play starring Ipswich's Eugene Gilfedder - 27 August;
• Thursday's Child - an inspiring play for young people - 31 August and 1 September;
• The Cool Change Tour - Glenn Shorrock, Wendy Matthews, Doug Parkinson - 9 September;
• Johnny Cash-Johnny O'Keefe Tribute Show - 10 September.

Events coming later in the year include Ipswich Musical Theatre Company's Beauty and the Beast, children's play The Fastest Boy in the World, Ipswich City Orchestra's Gala '09, Charmaine Wilson - Sprit Whispers, comedy show The Needle and the Damage Done, Ipswich Orpheus Chorale's Spamalot, Dancenorth's Nightcafe, Wickety Wak's One Last Laugh Tour and children's favourite Dorothy the Dinosaur Meets Santa.
