Presented by Ipswich Musical Theatre Company Inc. which are a local amateur company      that have been performing Major musicals in Ipswich for over 10 years.

Beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 26th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 10,000 performances.

Four Queensland composers were each commissioned to write a brief opera responding to the 2011 Queensland Floods.

The composers are from diverse musical backgrounds and each of their operas brings a different musical perspective to the overall work which uses instrumental, vocal, digital and interactive media.

The result is FLOODS: A Travelling Queensland Opera, an opera production that fits into a bus and takes to Queensland roads in September and October.

To present these four works, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University has assembled a dynamic creative team comprising Greg Massingham (Director/Producer), Roland Peelman (Conductor), Christopher Smith (Design) and singers and instrumentalists from the Queensland Conservatorium. The works are diverse, evocative, sometimes experimental and are a thoughtful reflection of the dramatic events upon which they are based.

He is firmly cemented in the nation’s musical culture, his impressive career spans more than forty years. He has survived and soared in the often cut-throat entertainment industry. His unofficial anthems, tributes to legends and unsung heroes and tender ballads have captured the spirit of the nation in song unlike any other. His honest and passionate songs are synonymous with the country that inspires him and connect him with his countrymen regardless of age, sex or creed.

It all started when he penned that classic OLD MAN EMU back in 1970. From this ‘silly’ song (as he often refers to it) that went to #1 for five weeks, he has continued to create hits including TRUE BLUE, COOTAMUNDRA WATTLE, RIP RIP WOODCHIP, RAINING ON THE ROCK, THE BIG RED, WINTER GREEN, SALISBURY STREET, GALLERIES OF PINK GALAHS and HAWKESBURY RIVER LOVIN’ to name but a few of the 400+ songs written by the multi-award winning songwriter.
