Ipswich Civic Centre presents…
Supported by Sit Down Comedy Club.
Supported by Sit Down Comedy Club brings comedy to Ipswich in the monthly Stitch in the ‘swich series.
This month features Jo Gowda, Josh Coutinho, Lloyd Bendle, Mary Gore, Aaron Pratt, and Dusty Rich!
Jo Gowda
Meet Jo, an Indian-born who captivates audiences with her razor-sharp wit and playful humour. A finalist in the esteemed RAW comedy competition in both 2019 and 2020, Jo has a knack for disarming her audience with her quick wit and mischievous charm.
Affectionately referring to herself as Australia’s second-best import (after cricket, of course), Jo’s comedy isn’t just about laughter; it’s a tool she uses to break barriers, shatter stereotypes, and incite thought. Growing up with strong South Indian roots while embracing her new life in Australia, Jo has crafted a unique comedic palate she fondly dubs ‘Great Barrier Beef’. It’s a delightful blend of her cultural heritage and her experiences in her adopted homeland.
Jo dreams of a day when her humour will inspire the world her mother to come and watch her perform.
Josh Coutinho
Josh is a budding standup comedian from the Gold Coast, despite this clearly troubled and disadvantageous upbringing, Josh is actually a pretty decent guy (source: unknown) and has managed to keep a positive outlook on life.
A crowd favourite (as long as his mum is in the audience), Josh was the winner of QLD RAW in 2022 after only a few months of pursuing comedy, and has not looked back (just in case it was a mistake and the judges reverse their decision).
There aren’t many things he can’t do, whether he’s running in marathons, or away from emotional commitment, Josh remains one of the most diverse, brilliant, shining examples of Queensland’s up and coming talent pool. He’s also really humble and totally didn’t write this himself.
Mary Gore
Mary Gore is a rising star in the Brisbane comedy scene, blending her Irish roots and lady tradie background into a unique and hilariously unpredictable comedic style.
With the perfect balance of accidental inappropriateness and effortless humour, she’s taken Australian comedy by storm, becoming a semi-finalist in the QLD Raw Competition in 2022, competing in Brat Pack, and finishing as the runner-up at the Giggle Room Competition. Her infectious energy and sharp wit make her an absolute must-see for anyone who loves to laugh.
Aaron Pratt
At 6’2″ and 180kg, New Zealand born Polynesian powerhouse, Aaron Pratt, will bring the house down, the structural support beams and any other aspect of the establishment not rated for his big laughs (&/or excess body mass). Known by many as “Bro”, Aaron’s been honing his skills on some of the toughest crowds QLD has to offer, all to bring you this hilarious one-hour solo show to The 2020 Sit Down Comedy Fringe Festival.
His offbeat, slow and easy delivery style of joke telling got him through to the Triple J RAW Comedy Queensland State Finals in both 2014 & 2015. Aaron been on the comedy grind for years, providing support to some of Australia’s finest headline acts, including but not limited to Fiona O’Loughlin, Akmal Saleh, Heath Franklin’s Chopper and Steady Eddy.
If you’ve ever been a humongous brown guy raised by a family of tiny white people, then you are going to relate to this show. ‘Pratfall’ is collection of stories about Aaron Pratt’s life. Pratfall encompasses what life is like for a 10-year-old boy the size of an All Black forward pack stumbling through life on his way to be a husband, a father and a comic.
Dusty Rich
A comedic space-warrior riding a living volcano with one hand whipping the reins and the other gingerly fingering the lava-hot truth that flows freely down all sides – is smothering the world in comedy magma.
His meteoric rise in the Comedy Industry is due to the fact he had learnt to ride meteors at a very young age – a mind meteor, smashing through the atmosphere of mediocre and mundane. Each show is unpredictable and hilarious, leaving audiences gasping for air.
A true original, his style is manic but impactful. The mystical art of comedy bursts through his veins (and mouth) coupled with his razor sharp wit, taking no prisoners. Dusty Rich is, without question, an unnaturally naturally talented comedic anomaly.
Whether he’s in a suit and tie, earning that corporate cashola; in a vest and beard rousing everyone at a comedy club, or loud as rock ‘n roll in front of five thousand strong, he has to be seen to be believed.
