Lorenzo Bernardi – Classical Guitar

Presented by Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Madga Productions and Ipswich Civic Centre

Born in Trento in 1994, Lorenzo Bernardi graduated from the Conservatory F.A Bonporti of Trento in 2015. He then continued his studies under the guidance of Emanuele Buono at the Conservatorio L. Canepa in Sassari, obtaining a Master’s Degree with Honours. He further specialised at Conservatorio de Musica Manuel Castillo in Seville, Spain, under the guidance of internationally renowned Professor and guitarist Francisco Bernier.

Italy’s position in the Mediterranean and its grafting onto the heart of Europe are probably the elements that allowed “Bella Italia” to assimilate an incredible number of stimulation and experiences.

In this frame of human events with roots in ancient Greece and Rome, the Maghreb and Northern Europe, through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and Romanticism, we recognize the origin of a unique artistic sensibility, that has elevated Italian culture, and music in particular, throughout the centuries inspiring admiration and imitation. (A home of melody, fantasy, and a laboratory of eternal beauty).

To explore this magnificent scenery and discover its aesthetic and spiritual values, a glance at the guitar, a popular, very versatile instrument, is the perfect dispenser of knowledge.

The six strings of the guitar, in fact, have accompanied all the adventures of humanity, interpreting the drama, emotions, sociality and individual introspection.

The objective of this project is to accompany the spectator, specialist or amateur, to the discovery of Italian composers, who have enhanced the characteristics of this beloved instrument, its tone and its expressive potential, with original writings or adaptations of masterpieces composed for diverse organic instruments throughout the ages. To this new exclusive program, Lorenzo Bernardi, a young, passionate guitarist from Italy, has drawn on the treasure chest of Italian composers.

Aunty Delmae Barton, also recognised as Australia’s Dreamtime Opera Diva, will be presenting an Acknowledgement of Country at Lorenzo’s concert. Born in Emerald, Queensland, and a descendant of the Bidjara tribe (mother’s side), Aunty Delmae has performed around Australia and on the international stage.
