Winner of the international 2016 Guitar Masters fingerstyle competition, one of the largest and most prestigious guitar competitions in the world, East Frisian guitarist Soenke Meinen embarks on his first Australian tour as part of the 2017 Acoustic Guitar Spectacular.

With Bruce Mathiske, arguably the finest all-round guitarist Australia has produced (The Australian) and Michael Fix, one of Australia’s Top 25 Guitarists of All Time, Meinen will join forces to weave memorable musical magic.

Showcasing a diverse range of guitar talent from across the globe, the Acoustic Guitar Spectacular has been touring Australia annually since 2012 to sell-out audiences and rave reviews. Concerts are structured so that each player features as solo artists, as well as performing as an ensemble, allowing plenty of opportunity for spontaneity and improvisation. Three players with such diverse musical backgrounds present amazing possibilities and incredible variety for audiences.

Each guitarist is known for their ability to entertain, and each present their music with a view to engage and delight audiences with stories, songs, and humour, making it a performance aimed for all people, not just ‘guitar aficionados’.

This is a rare opportunity to see such a wealth of amazing musical talent on the one stage.

THIS VIRTUOSO, IS ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S MUSICAL SUPERSTARS, THE NOTES EXPLODE FROM BOTH HANDS LEAVING YOU TO WONDER IF THERE IS ANOTHER MATHISKE IN THE WINGS. BY THE TIME HE HAD ADDED THE DIDGERIDOO AND WOWED US WITH OUTRAGEOUS HARMONICS FROM FAR FLUNG CORNERS OF HIS GUITAR, WE WERE ALL HIS (Adrian Morgan, The Scotsman)

SOENKE IS ONE OF THE GREAT YOUNG PLAYERS OUT THERE AND I LOVE AND RESPECT HIS WORK. ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE GUITARISTS IN THE SCENE TODAY  (Tommy Emmanuel)

HIS INTERPRETATIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE’S TUNES HAVE A FRESH INDIVIDUALITY ABOUT THEM, WHILE HIS OWN COMPOSITIONS DRAW ON DIVERSE INFLUENCES TO CREATE A PERSONAL UNIQUENESS THAT IS EASY TO LISTEN TO, BUT HARD TO REPRODUCE. HIS FINGERPICKING IS FLAWLESS, HIS SENSE OF RHYTHM IS COMPLETELY CONTROLLED… MICHAEL HAS AN INSTRUMENTAL VOICE THAT IS BOTH A CHALLENGE TO OTHER GUITARISTS AND COMPLETELY ENJOYABLE TO EVERYONE (Steve Henderson, Guitarist Australia Magazine)

Red Chair is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland
