Festival Gala – Musicals Of The Greatest Era

Presented by Ipswich City Symphony
Part of the 2018 Ipswich Festival

Come to the Festival Gala 2018 as Ipswich City Symphony debuts under its new name.

Silvie Paladino, well known for her television appearances on Carols by Candlelight, is one of Australia’s most versatile and talented entertainers, having performed throughout Australia, Asia and on London’s West End. Silvie will join with the Ipswich City Symphony to perform Something Wonderful (The King and I), Maybe this Time (Cabaret), and other songs for great musicals.

Returning by popular demand, David Hibbard sings again with this magnificent orchestra following his role as the Pharaoh in Aida for Opera Australia, staged on Broadbeach.  David has sung with leading opera companies around the world, but for this event will show his ability to sing some of the great musical theatre repertoire including Some Enchanted Evening (South Pacific) and Ol Man River (Showboat).

Tim McCallum has sung with Ipswich City Orchestra, but not at the Ipswich Civic Centre with this orchestra.   Tim travels Australia singing and giving motivational speeches.   This will be his first concert with Ipswich City Symphony and he will sing, among others, This is the Moment and he hopes to do a duet with Silvie!

Patrick Burns takes very short leave from the Australian Ballet where he is currently positioned.  As Chief Resident Conductor, now in his tenth year, Patrick will raise the baton for the first time to Ipswich City Symphony.   Ipswich City Symphony will not present, this time, in full capacity as it will be a theatre orchestra.   Patrick will be back for the Vienna Ball in September.

Ipswich City Symphony now has its own Chorale of gifted singers who will assemble for a season when required.  All are highly trained vocalists working in other choirs or theatres.   They will present some of the famous choruses from the greatest musicals and provide backing for some special numbers.

Shayne McCormick brings her dancers, expertise to the stage with Ipswich City Symphony again.  Shayne has been engaged by the orchestra over the past ten years.  In 2008, Shayne came on-board with The Four Seasons ballet with new conductor Patrick.   For Gala 2018 Shayne presents her dancers in the King and I segment.

Ipswich City Symphony never disappoints…be there for the time of your life.
