Reflectiv, AspirA music and Sunadham presents…

The May edition of Global Echoes – Unique Sounds features Daniel Philippe, Sue Ferrers and Atman.

Have you ever wondered how a nyckelharpa resonates, or the enchanting melodies a crystal armonica can produce? How about immersing yourself in the rich tones of a saz, the soulful breath of a mey, or the tranquil flow of a bansuri?

Featured musicians include:

Daniel Philippe –

Daniel Philippe’s musical journey started at eight years old when his parents recognised his talent for piano and took him for lessons. His interest was immediately piqued and to this day has never waned. Daniel’s early interest in music has evolved into over thirty years of performing and teaching music. He has performed in a variety of styles ranging from jazz to classical to rock, in ensembles and as a soloist. Most recently he has branched out into intercultural collaborations of spiritual music as part of his Masters degree. As well as live performance, Daniel has played on many recordings in different styles, including releasing his own ambient jazz albums under the name Reflectiv.

Sue Ferrers –

Sue Ferrers plays the hauntingly beautiful but rare Swedish nyckelharpa, or keyed-fiddle, an instrument dating back to the Middle Ages. She learned and honed the craft of playing nyckelharpa while living in Germany where she worked as a freelance musician, playing everything from intimate concerts in church settings to Gothic Rock in sold-out stadiums. Back in Queensland, Sue has teamed up with former Natives of Bedlam guitarist, Evan Clarry and bass-player Bob Harley (Funky Miracle, Sunset Junk) to bring an eclectic mix of European folk melodies in new clothes, taking the audience on a magic carpet ride to exotic, faraway lands of times gone by. An experience not to be missed!

Atman –

Atman is a multicultural musician, who was born in Turkey and travelled around the globe including Spain, Egypt, China, Europe and Australia to learn about different cultures. He tapped into diverse music styles thanks to these experiences. He learned Middle Eastern and Latin drums, and Didgeridoo thanks to his eye opening adventures. He met the masters of those instruments and camped with them together. Atman has been performing and teaching for 10+ years overseas and in Australia. He performed at highly regarded venues of SEQ such as BEMAC, HOTA, Miami Marketta and The Empire on top of his numerous collaborations with great musicians in the area. Besides, he has led the multicultural percussion project “The Pulse” and was nominated by HOTA, Logan Arts and Gold Coast City Council.

Join us for a three mesmerising events where music transcends boundaries, bringing together a spectacular fusion of cross-cultural collaborations and improvisations. This isn’t just a concert; it’s a musical journey that promises to broaden your horizons with the enchanting sounds of some of the world’s most unique instruments.
