Presented by Ipswich Civic Centre and The Australian Shakespeare Company in association with HIT Productions

Starring Gold Logie winner John Wood

We’re rolling out the red carpet in honour of one of Australia’s much-loved entertainers and his leading lady.

Showbiz legend John Wood and singing sensation Michele Forbes perform a collection of classic hits from the great jazz and American songbooks. Unforgettable songs such as Too Darn Hot, Baby It’s Cold Outside, and Steppin’ Out With My Baby feature in this production with John and Michele sharing the stage with a live three-piece band and dancers.

John and Michele welcome the audience with a high energy rendition of Peggy Lee’s I love Being Here With You followed by a hilarious but hair-raising story about how A Guy And A Gal was born on the side of a precarious mountain in a three-tonne truck whilst on tour.

They talk about how they planned the show loosely based on the famous story surrounding the Academy Award winning song Baby It’s Cold Outside and how composer Frank Loesser, most famous for his hit musical Guys And Dolls, wrote the song for him and his wife, Broadway star Lynn Garland, to perform at parties when it was time for their guests to leave. Garland saw it as ‘their song’ and felt betrayed when Loesser sold the rights to MGM for the song to be used in the film Neptune’s Daughter.

John and Michele are a showbiz couple who make plans to write their own show. Things are going well until John is made an offer to appear in a leading role in a West End production. John departs for London to follow his dream leaving their show in tatters. Michele too receives an offer to appear in a stage production in Australia. Their relationship is sorely tested when Michele discovers that John has recorded “their” song Baby It’s Cold Outside with his new co-star. Mayhem prevails as John hatches a plan to get back together with his true leading lady.

The narrative concert follows this story linking classic songs such as; Gershwin’s They All Laughed, Rodgers and Hart’s Where Or When, the memorable Beyond The Sea and of course the show’s centrepiece, Loesser’s Baby It’s Cold Outside.

Join us for this premier event: a magical evening up close and personal with John and Michele.
