Ipswich City Big Band presents…

Ipswich City Big Band’s anniversary concert celebrates twenty years of performance by and for members of the Ipswich community. The concert will display the varied talents of male and female vocalists, featured soloists and the Band across jazz standards and newer works from the jazz catalogue.

Lead by four talented musical directors over twenty years the Band is a regular performer in Ipswich, at regional festivals and the Brisbane Jazz Club.

“This community Big band is without doubt one of the leading exponents of jazz and big band music in the Ipswich area” – Alan Western, Vice-President, Brisbane Jazz Club

Two Ipswich music teachers, Sharon McInnes and Rose Salamanesa, filled a gap in the local Arts scene by forming the big band in 2004, focused on the opportunity for like-minded musicians to come together through a love of jazz music. Since inception the band has given many south-east Queensland musicians the opportunity to develop skills essential to swing, Latin, funk, pop and rock music.

“An amazing Band” – John Hoffman, musician & music educator

The Band’s development has been furthered by master classes from Australian jazz icons John Morrision, Jackie Cooper and John Hoffman. Truly memorable highlights include three concerts at Ipswich Civic Centre backing celebrated artists Emma Pask, Tenori and Hetty Kate.

The Band’s 10th Anniversary was celebrated with a concert at Studio 188 in Ipswich and the release of a CD recorded at the same venue.

With the enduring commitment of our small membership to make music together for the people of Ipswich and beyond, the band has successfully returned to full rehearsal and performance activities post-Covid. We would love you to join us under the musical direction of Matt Chambers in celebration of 20 years of the Ipswich City Big Band.
