Part of Studio 188‘s Live! at the Baptist series

Your connection to the most cutting edge and progressive music scene in Ipswich. Live! at the Baptist is a place where unearthed bands and independent artists can rock-out live on stage. Experience the sublime sounds of this intimate and energetic venue featuring some of the best headline acts touring the country alongside up and coming local artists.

Tiarne and Taylor Wilton are no longer able to join us at this performance, however Brisbane based sing-songwriter Laura Mulcahy will be there with her songs inspired by artists like Sara Bareilles and John Mayer.

Laura Mulcahy
Guaranteed to get stuck in your head, Laura Mulcahy’s music sits in the sweet spot between old- school soul and heartfelt piano-driven songwriting—with a little gospel and blues sass. After taking a hiatus to sing on the ocean (aboard ships cruising up and down the West Coast of the USA), Laura landed back in Queensland, where she’s been out and about playing her own shows, as well as supporting local and interstate acts. 2018 included supporting Nomika (formerly His Merry Men) on their Motion EP tour, The Steele Syndicate on their ‘Ours’ Launch Party Tour, and smashing out the successful launch of her new single ‘Give and Take’ at The Bearded Lady (West End). Taking cues from artists like Sara Bareilles, Allen Stone, Bernhoft and John Mayer, Laura’s music is as likely to get you dancing as it is to melt you into a puddle of feelings.

Fieu
Fieu (pronounced Fee-yoo) meaning ‘heat’ or ‘fire’ is the alias of Queensland Alt-Pop artist Emily Brewis combining powerful vocals with keyboard synths, ambient electric guitars and energetic drum beats.

Since releasing her debut EP in 2014, Fieu has topped Triple J Unearthed charts, gained national radio play (including Triple J), as well as been recognized for her writing in the International Songwriting Contest and QMusic Awards. With a growing CV of support credentials for artists such as Ayla, Montaigne and Woodlock, Fieu is a fresh face that is swiftly becoming a familiar one.

With time spent to experiment artistically, Emily has been working closely with Perth based producer Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe, Meg Mac) to evolve her sound to present a powerful synth-based pop direction which will feature on her upcoming second EP in 2016. Mid May will see the first taste of Fieu’s 2016 release with ‘Impossible’. Featuring a carefully crafted array of lush soaring vocal harmonies, addictive melodies and bright synth-pop foundations, her new songs will place your imagination right in the scene of a Hollywood adventure film.

Taleena Peck
Allowing yourself to pen lyrics that are brutally candid to your life is a reality for the most open of songwriters, and it’s a world Taleena Peck has willingly thrown herself into. This Brisbane-based indie pop artist has grasped the art of granting gravity to life’s happenings through her ethereal style and tendency to write songs that are painfully honest, raw and cathartic.

Found playing with an accompanying guitarist, this songstress’ sound has evolved from that of a small town, guitar-slinging singer songwriter, to a confident and sultry indie infused performer, tackling the music world one song after another. Taleena’s reputation for writing authentic and unapologetic songs makes for a captivating performance, every time.
