DAVID SCHEEL’S hit show, DON’T SHOOT ME, I’M ONLY THE PIANO PLAYER, firmly established his reputation as the most original musical comedy performer of his generation.
Sell-out seasons in London’s West End, at 3 Edinburgh Festivals, and on tours to some 30 countries, attracted rave reviews, and it was only a matter of time before sheer audience demand led David to devise a brand new show, MAD MAESTROS.
MAD MAESTROS is a celebration of music’s eccentrics through the ages, and in it David brings to life 25 of music’s greatest and weirdest personalities in a virtuoso performance of narrative, character acting and piano playing.
Bach, Beethoven, Sir Thomas Beecham, Al Jolson and many others are resurrected, or, in the case of living musicians such as Philip Glass and Jose Carreras, actually impersonated, with pinpoint accuracy, not to mention David’s hilarious send up of today’s top pop singers.
Merely as a theatre piece MAD MAESTROS would be a challenge for any actor, but when you add in the fact that David also plays the works of his “victims”, displaying both remarkable technique and sensitivity on the piano, then it becomes clear that there are few people who could even attempt a performance of this nature.
On David’s most USA tour Broadway Magazine dubbed him “the funniest pianist in the world”.
In MAD MAESTROS you will laugh a lot, cry a little, and marvel at the beauty of the piano when played by a master.
The BBC’s Arts Review program described David as: “as funny as any, wittier than most, and, uniquely, a concert pianist of international stature…he stands alone, in a class of his own.”
MAD MAESTROS will again be an unforgettable concert of laughter and beautiful music.
“A sheer delight…Scheel’s ability to take the audience from hysterics to tears in a matter of minutes, is unique.” [Canberra Times, Australia]
” Technically brilliant, and, between compositions, hilariously funny” [The Times, London]
” David Scheel is wonderfully funny, and an expert pianist. The audience loved it from start to finish.” [Denver Post, USA]
“ Musical parodies and impersonations from classics to jazz – all played to perfection. Add in the comedy and this is a show not to be missed!” [Manchester Evening News, UK]
