St Mary’s College presents…
The St Mary’s and St Edmund’s Colleges production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical
For more than two decades, St. Mary’s and St. Edmund’s Colleges have consistently delivered outstanding Combined Colleges’ Musicals. This year, St. Mary’s College proudly presents Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical.
Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins brings to life the enchanting tale of the Banks family, whose lives are transformed by the magical arrival of the practically perfect and whimsically mysterious Mary Poppins.
Set in Edwardian London, the musical follows the misadventures of Jane and Michael Banks, two lively and mischievous children who have driven away their previous nannies. Frustrated, their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Banks, seek a new solution to their childcare challenges. Enter Mary Poppins, a magical and charismatic nanny with a bottomless carpet bag and an umbrella that can defy gravity. With her unique blend of stern discipline and enchanting magic, Mary Poppins takes the Banks children on fantastical adventures that not only broaden their horizons but also help to heal the strained relationships within the family.
The musical weaves together a tapestry of memorable characters, including the lovable chimney sweep Bert, and takes the audience on a journey filled with song, dance, and magical moments. This timeless and toe-tapping music, includes beloved classics such as “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” and “A Spoonful of Sugar.” As Mary Poppins works her magical influence on the Banks family, the story explores themes of love, family, and the importance of finding joy in life.
Through a series of whimsical and heartwarming adventures, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins is a delightful and uplifting theatrical experience that captures the spirit of the original stories by P.L. Travers and the beloved film adaptation. With its unforgettable characters, enchanting music, and magical moments, the musical celebrates the power of imagination, the importance of family, and the idea that sometimes, a little bit of magic is just what is needed to bring joy and harmony into our lives.
