Daniel Philippe has been involved in an array of musical activities in Ipswich and beyond. These include regular performances with the Ipswich City Orchestra, as Music Director for the Icon New Year’s Eve concerts at Robelle Domain, the Ipswich City Big Band and various other bands and ensembles ranging from classical to rock to jazz.
In the latter part of the 1990s, he toured interstate with alternative rock band Tonjip who also had airplay on Triple J.
In 2007 he released the first album under the moniker Reflectiv, which could be labelled as ambient jazz. His improvisatory piano skills were featured on this album and it was followed up with a remix EP and two albums purely of improvised piano music.
The most recent Reflectiv project was a live concert recording with the Ipswich City Orchestra.
Reflectiv – Songs for Stillness will feature Reflectiv-styled ambient improvisations and may also venture into more jazzier and funkier territory.
Whatever style the music comes out as, Daniel’s goal is that it comes from, and is for, the very moment of its performance – music that feeds the spirit and the soul, creating a transcendent world – a quiet place, a place for listening, understanding and healing.
To enhance the meditative vibe, Daniel will be joined by Tom Schache playing singing bowls and other percussion, and renowned Indian singer, Menaka Thomas.
