Ipswich City Council Seniors Concert Group is seeking expressions of interest from senior members of the Ipswich community wishing to be involved in our 2020 productions. We are looking for committed performing arts enthusiasts with a love of singing and performing on stage, as well as those who don’t desire the bright lights, but love the challenge of working behind the scenes.

Ipswich City Council Seniors Concert Group has been presenting musicals for the Ipswich community for over 15 years. The group, comprising local volunteer singers and backstage crew, present a 75-minute musical concert twice yearly at Ipswich Civic Centre. Members of the Ipswich City Council Seniors Concert Group pride themselves as ‘amateur performers with a professional approach’.

OPPORTUNITIES

Performer (lead cast, chorus members)

Eligible cast members must meet the following criteria:

  • live within the Ipswich City Council boundary
  • be over 50 years of age
  • demonstrate previous history and/or interest in singing
  • be a team player able to take direction
  • be able to commit to the rehearsal schedule (outlined on the following pages) be of suitable health, capable of acting/performing for 75 minutes on stage.

Cast expressions of interest close 4.00 pm Friday 24 January 2020. 

Auditions will be conducted on Tuesday 28 January at Ipswich Civic Centre from 9.00am. The production team will be looking for a cast who are able to demonstrate an ability to sing in tune and embrace being cast in a role for the audition.

Backstage Crew (stagehands, set builders, painters, costumes)

Eligible back stage crew must meet the following criteria:

  • live within the Ipswich City Council boundary
  • be over 50 years of age
  • demonstrate previous history and/or interest in either; stage hand, building, painting or costume making must be a team player and be able to take direction
  • be able to commit to the delivery of the set building or costume making timeline
  • be of suitable health, capable of assisting the stage manager for the duration of the performance up to 75 minutes.

Crew expressions of interest close Tuesday 18 February 2020.

The production team will be looking for potential backstage crew who are able to clearly demonstrate their interest in their chosen roles.

Please note: All cast and crew are expected to be friendly and have a positive attitude, adding to Ipswich City Council’s Senior Concert Group team spirit. Council management, following consultation with the Ipswich City Council Senior Concert Group production team, reserves the right to cancel the involvement of any member who does not abide by the requirements outlined above.

PERFORMANCE AND REHEARSAL INFORMATION

CAST COMMITMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Cast are required to undertake Ipswich City Council’s (council) volunteer program induction and abide by council’s standards of behaviour and code of conduct at all times. Details will be made available as part of the volunteer’s induction to be completed prior to the start of rehearsals.
  • Cast are required to attend rehearsals scheduled for 9.00 am to 12.00 pm midday on the dates listed above and must attend at least 80% of the scheduled rehearsals with 100% attendance from week 10 to 13 including both performances.
  • Flexibility in and around attending additional rehearsals may be required. It is the expectation of the production team that cast will dedicate time on their own to learn their lines in addition to the scheduled rehearsals.
  • Council management and Ipswich City Council Seniors Concert Group production team, at all times, place the well-being and good health of individual cast members first and foremost at heart. Cast members’ health and well-being takes precedence over the personal commitment to the performance and where required the production team reserve the right to reallocate parts/singing roles in the event a cast member’s health has deteriorated to a point where the production is placed at risk.
  • Cast members with limited mobility are encouraged to audition and will be directed accordingly, under the assumption that those cast members with limited mobility are not solely reliant on personal assistance. Appropriate due diligence will be undertaken to allow limited mobility cast members whose health is adequate and capable to act/perform for 75 minutes on stage.

CREW COMMITMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Crew are required to undertake Ipswich City Council’s volunteer program induction and abide by council’s standards of behaviour and code of conduct at all times. Details will be made available as part of the volunteer’s induction to be completed prior to the start of rehearsals.
  • Crew will be given a schedule pending their preferred area of volunteering. Set construction and painting will be required to be completed prior to Sunday 10 May, with costume design and sewing to be completed prior to Tuesday 28 April.
  • Council management and Ipswich City Council Seniors Concert Group production team, at all times, place the wellbeing and good health of individual cast members first and foremost at heart. Crew members’ health and well-being takes precedence over the personal commitment to the production and where required the production team reserve the right to reallocate roles in the event a crew member’s health has deteriorated to a point where the production is placed at risk.
