Sit Down Comedy Club brings comedy to Ipswich in the monthly Stitch in the ‘swich series.

Celebrating the best of the Australian Comedy Festival season, this show features Acts who have been killing it with their Festival shows across the country! Come join Anisa Nandaula, Ben Hunter, Codie Grimsey, Alexandra Hudson, Lindsay Webb and an Ipswich local comedian for a night full of laughter!

Anisa Nandaula –

Ugandan Australian comic and poet Anisa Nandaula’s unique point of view and experiences fuel the fresh new perspective she’s bringing to the local comedy scene and beyond. Born in Uganda in 2001, Anisa moved to Australia when she was eight and grew up in Rockhampton.

Cutting her teeth through spoken word, Anisa won the 2016 Queensland Poetry Slam and was runner up in the Australia Poetry Slam Championships, then took what she learned to break into comedy in 2020. Mining everything from racism to relationships, religion to class has seen her amass more than 50 million views of her work across Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube and more than 200,000 social media followers.

Anisa mixes the personal with the political to connect with audiences, veering from relatable dating and finance stories to observations about navigating Australian society while black and back again. She has performed on Channel Ten, SBS, ABC and at the Sydney Opera House.

Ben Hunter –

After bursting onto the scene in 2021, Ben Hunter’s enthralling awkwardness and off-kilter musings have made him a fixture at venues all around Brisbane. Ben’s inane life as a private school graduate, Communications degree holder, and retail assistant sees him often delving into the absurd. His unconventional style and material making him stand out from anything you might have seen before.

“Ben, how do you do it? How do you manage it all? Comedy Zone 2023, RAW State Finals, sold out shows (No Netball, The Unfortunate Nature of the Experience, Arguably Funny – The Comedy Debate, Gathering w/ Meg Jäger), performing at all of the nuttiest venues in the country, all while being nice and kind as well? And all of that at just eight years old. You’ve got such a crazy life!”

I always tell them the same thing – “The only thing crazy thing about my life, is the way I go about it.”

Codie Grimsey –

Codie Grimsey is a Brisbane based comedian who has a dry, awkward, deadpan style of humour. Growing up as a freakishly tall, red-head meant he had to use comedy to cope with the constant torment that came with looking like the lovechild of Ronald McDonald and a fridge. Codie’s awkward stage presence has been likened to that of the famous Luke McGregor. He mixes hilariously awkward true stories from his childhood with short and not so witty one-liners, giving audiences a unique and refreshing change to anything else they have seen before.

Alexandra Hudson –

Alexandra Hudson, living in East Ballina, on Bundjalung country, made her comedy debut in July 2020. Alexandra took out joint first place in the National Final of the Raw Comedy Competition at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2022; and in 2023 was invited to take part in their illustrious Comedy Zone programme.

Alexandra delightfully staggers and stumbles through life’s experiences, and in doing so stumbled onto a comedy stage. Sharing entertaining musings about her experiences as a disabled woman and her observations about the mostly foreign non-disabled world she lives in. From Alexandra’s perspective she often finds it is the non-disabled who are the oddities, and she takes joy in tipping things on their head. The non-disabled give her much to ponder in her daily life and are great comedic fodder. In 2024, Alexandra debuted her first solo show ‘Making Lemonade’ at festivals around the country.
